Segment No. 068 -- Mt. 9:27-34

Title:  The Healing of the Two Blind Men and Another Messianic Miracle

Mt. 9:27   When Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying,  “Son of David, have mercy on us!”

The two blind men approach Yeshua in public asking for mercy, but He ignores them.  They even call Him Son of David,” proclaiming that He is the Messiah.  But, they will not receive a response while He is out in public.

Mt. 9:28   And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him.  And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”  They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”

When they come into the house out of the public eye and approach Him again, He responds this time.  He will perform miracles in response to personal needs on the basis of faith, but only out of the public eye.  My heart grieves for the people of Israel because they were missing out on so much.  And yet, they made a choice and it was the wrong one.

Mt. 9:29   Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.”

What Yeshua tells them is sort of conditional  They could have simply said “yes” to His question just to get the healing, but not really mean it.  Evidently they were sincere, though, because their eyes were opened.

Mt. 9:30   And their eyes were opened.  And Jesus sternly warned them, “See that no one knows it.”

Once again He charges these two into silence.  Although I’m sure that Yeshua knows that the word will get out to some extent, He is no longer interested in broadcasting it to the whole country.

Mt. 9:31   But when they had departed, they spread the news about Him in all that country.
Mt. 9:32   As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man mute and demon-possessed.
Mt. 9:33   And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke.  And the multitude marveled, saying,  “It was never seen like this in Israel.”

Here we have a repeat of the second Messianic Miracle.  This is a repeat of the Messianic Miracle that Yeshua performed just a short time before.  But, there is a big difference.  The response of this crowd when they saw it was, “It was never seen like this in Israel.”  The crowd before this one accused Him of performing miracles with the power of Beelzebub, thus committing the Unpardonable Sin.  Two people with mute demons this close together does seem a little suspicious, almost as if the Pharisees had set this up to sway the people in this region.

Mt. 9:34   But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the ruler of demons.”

It seems like some people never learn their lesson.  The Pharisees immediately begin to try to sway this crowd to their way of thinking also.  These Pharisees had probably taught about the Messianic Miracles many times in the past, but now when they see one happen, they attribute it to the devil.  Their ignorance would cost them dearly in the coming years.
