Mt. 15:39 And He sent away the multitude, got into a boat, and it came to the region of Magdala.
Mk. 8:10 And immediately He got into the boat with His disciples and came to the region of Dalmanutha.
Magdala, He is now back in Jewish territory. Apparently Dalmanutha and Magdala are different names for the same region. Both are mentioned only once in the New Testament. Dalmanutha was probably on the western side of the Sea of Galilee, about three miles north of modern Tiberias and about five miles southwest of Capernaum.
Mt. 16:1 The Pharisees and the Sadducees came, and testing Him, asking Him for a miraculous sign.
Mk. 8:11 And the Pharisees came out and began to dispute Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him.
The Pharisees and Sadducees came tempting Him, asking for a miraculous sign. Somehow these men don’t seem to have gotten the message. Because of them, Israel has rejected her Messiah. In about 40 years she will pay an awful price for that rejection.
Mt. 16:2 He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’”
Mt. 16:3 “And in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signals of the times.”
Mt. 16:4a “A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.”
Mk. 8:12 But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.”
He has already performed all the signs that He needed to, or is going to, to authenticate His claims. The next and final sign that they will receive is His crucifixion and resurrection. Notice that He is clearly talking about that present generation, not one some 2,000 years out in the future.
